The Second National Prefabricated Bridge Elements and Systems Workshop

FHWA, AASHTO, NJDOT, and Rutgers University in cooperation with the Midwest Transportation Consortium, sponsored the Second National Prefabricated Bridges Workshop in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on September 8-10, 2004. This workshop, building on feedback from the February 2003 St. Louis workshop participants recommending a follow-up workshop, showed how the use of prefabricated bridge elements and systems enables contractors to "Get in, Get out and Stay out." Speakers discussed how prefabricated bridge components can be used to minimize traffic disruption, improve work-zone safety, reduce environmental impact, and improve constructability while maintaining quality. The program included State bridge engineers, contractors, designers, FHWA, and others sharing the state-of-the-art in this technology, including a presentation on the findings of the 2004 world scanning tour. Various bridge projects using prefabrication were highlighted.

General

This workshop builds on the strong desire of the participants, from the first St. Louis workshop in 2002, for a follow-up Workshop. More than 40 technical presentations will highlight the use of prefabricated bridge elements and systems to enable contractors to "Get in, Get out and Stay out." Speakers will discuss how prefabricated bridges and bridge components using high performance materials and advanced technologies can minimize traffic disruption, improve work-zone safety, reduce environmental impact, and improve constructability while increasing quality. The program includes State bridge engineers, contractors, designers, FHWA, and others in the industry to share the state-of-the-art in this technology. Various bridge projects using prefabrication will be highlighted. A field trip to the Victory Bridge in New Jersey will be an exciting part of the workshop. The workshop will be at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Brunswick, NJ, which is conveniently located for easy access for people driving or flying.

Seminar Location

Participants will meet at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, New Brunswick, NJ on September 8-10, 2004. For reservation or other information call hotel directly at 1-(800) 233-1234. A block of rooms under the name "NJDOT Bridge Conference" has been allocated for conference participants and will be held until August 17, 2004.

Registration

The workshop will be inviting design, fabrication, construction and supply industry representatives to participate in an exhibit/technology area where various aspects of the PFBES can be on display. A limited number of spaces will be available.

Registration fees are being kept as low as possible to help ensure a larger audience, as shown below.

State DOT Scholarship

To help make attendance at this workshop possible for State DOT bridge engineers, the AASHTO Technology Implementation Group (TIG) is providing a scholarship to reimburse one representative from each State DOT for travel costs up to $500.
