Pavement and Materials Forum

Purpose of this internal group is to provide guidance and advice for the FHWA pavement and materials program. The Forum provides the means to develop and coordinate FHWA's National pavement and materials program by the involved headquarters and field offices.

Organized in late 2000, first meeting held in April 2001. Composition of the Forum includes:

(Membership on the Forum is typically on a three year rotational basis)

Meetings are held usually twice a year. The Spring meeting identifies key Focus Areas for the Program area and the Fall meeting examines progress on existing pavement and material Focus Areas and Roadmap.

Current Five Focus Areas are:

Optimize Pavement Performance
Advanced Quality Systems
Pavement Surface Characteristics
Technical Capability Building
Environmental Stewardship

The April 7 & 8, 2004 meeting objectives were:

Review of the FHWA Pavements and Materials Technology Roadmap
Adoption of the FHWA Pavements and Materials 2005 National Focus Areas
Awareness of FHWA Pavement Programs
