What We Do
The Office of Transportation Policy Studies examines a broad range of cross-cutting issues that will affect future transportation policies and programs. It also implements the Joint Federal State Motor Fuel Tax Compliance Project.
Policy study areas include:
- Relationships between highway investment and economic productivity
- Highway cost allocation and truck size and weight policy
- Estimation and implementation of road user fees
- Emerging transportation policy issues
Products of these policy studies include:
- Reports to Congress including the Comprehensive Truck Size and Weight Study and the Federal Highway Cost Allocation Study.
- Proceedings of workshops, conferences, etc. on a wide range of current and emerging policy issues.
- Data and analytical tools for use by States and others in assessing transportation policy options
- Papers analyzing specific transportation policy issues and options.
