Arkansas
Monitoring and evaluation of cable median barrier on I40 and I55: The objective will be to monitor and evaluate the construction, performance and effectiveness of a high-tension cable median barrier system on two projects located on I40 and I55, respectively. This evaluation will be in conjunction with a previous evaluation of a proprietary median cable system on Interstate 430 in Little Rock. These sites have been chosen due to the high number of fatal crashes in recent years that have occurred due to vehicles crossing the median and striking oncoming traffic.
Basics of Value Engineering for Planners: This workshop consists of training up to 18 students in the basics of value engineering with specific focus on transportation planning and process. This workshop will include one or two 16 to 24 hour classes with lectures and transportation-related case study for exercises.
Technical Assistance Presentation at 2007 International Right of Way Association (IRWA) Public Real Estate Educational Symposium (PRES). Presentation of Technical Assistance. Mr. Blakeney will be one of the presenters at the FHWA sponsored Environmental Justice Session, of the Transportation Track at the IRWA Public Real Estate Education Symposium. Mr. Blakeney will also take the lead as moderator for this session and another FHWA sponsored session, Early Acquisition: Purchase Prior to NEPA.
Freight in the Transportation Planning Process - FHWA Arkansas Division Perspective Presentation at a training course in Nashville Tennessee April 11-13, 2007. Mr. Blakeney will prepare and present Freight Planning-FHWA Division Perspective to participants attending NHI 139001, Integrating Freight in the Transportation Planning Process. This will better participant's understanding of freight planning from FHWA Division Offices perspective. This is a great opportunity to share information the content would support one of the course sessions. It can be considered a transfer of technology in the absence of participating in course instruction.
Arkansas Transportation Planning Conference. A two-day conference with speakers covering such topics as freight planning, safety conscious planning, access management, and the steps necessary to ensure that the metropolitan planning process is SAFETEA-LU compliant

Pennsylvania
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) participated with other public sector transportation agencies, including the PA Turnpike Commission and Delaware DOT, in a joint exhibit at the 2006 ITS America annual meeting and national conference in Philadelphia on May 7-9, 2006. To support the exhibit, approximately 6 to 7 PennDOT employees were present over the 3 days to give an overview of the Department's evolving operations program, answer questions and provide literature. In general, our objectives were: (1) To showcase the achievements of PennDOT working with its State Partners in transportation operations, and (2) To showcase PennDOT's short-term and long-term approach to transportation operations.
Pay travel costs for a presenter at the 2006 Byways To The Past Conference on May 17-18, 2006. The Conference was co-hosted by PennDOT and FHWA. The purpose of the conference was to bring together cultural resource professionals, heritage preservationists and the engineering community to explore new, innovative ways of conducting business and to broaden the knowledge of the audience.
