Solutions

Contract Administration Assistance: Federal-Aid Solutions

Problem:
Working through contract provisions, administrative procedures, and applicable policies related to Federal-aid design and construction contracts often leads to questions. Having resources available to answer those questions quickly and accurately is critical to meeting stakeholder needs.

If such questions arise, seeking technical assistance may be part of the solution!
The Construction and Project Management Technical Service Team can provide:
- Contract administration technical assistance
- Recommend strategies and identify opportunities
- Coordinate group training
- Community of Practice information

Contract Administration Technical Assistance:
The Construction and Project Management Technical Service Team members can provide technical assistance interpreting construction contract provisions and contracting procedures for conformance with Federal-aid requirements; discuss general and specific construction contract administration issues; and provide research on the FHWA policy via statutes, regulations, and directives to address specific needs and issues.

Identify Strategies and Opportunities:
Navigating through the administrative protocol can be confusing. The Technical Service Team can assist and recommend strategies and applications in a practical and meaningful approach.

Training:
The Construction and Project Management Technical Service Team members in cooperation with the FHWA Headquarters staff provide up-to-date training in the Contract Administration Core Curriculum course. This training is tailored to FHWA and State Highway Agency's application of contract procedures, policies, and requirements prescribed in 23 CFR Sections 230, 633, and 635 and relates them to Federal-Aid construction contracts.

Alternative Contracting Community of Practice:
Benefits include participation in question and answer discussions, references to links to relevant documents or websites for additional information, and a directory listing of members formally registered with the Community of Practice.
